I do not use references or do sketches for my drawings, paintings etc. The ideas come from my mind, the inspiration comes long before. I have A LOT of interests, very different things. My preferences are obscure things, things of simple beauty, cult stuff, trash, classics. Sometimes the thoughts of people inspire me more than their works. For example Takashi Miike, he has a free thinking mind, interviews with him inspired me very much.
I tell you some of my main influences: My experiences with being an outsider, social phobia, depression, suicidal tendencies, Hikikomori/Cocooning etc. ( this is my main reason to do art, therapy and kind of "revenge" against so many assholes I met, people who thought they can get me down) My experiences with problems of other people or experiences from childhood (like domestic violence, drug addiction, gambling, heavy eating disorders, Hikikomori/Cocooning, borderline syndrome etc.) Nature (I have a special love for rain) Dark side of humanity (war and there especially WW II , religious crimes, terror...) The guys from Monty Python (my heroes and saviours of my youth) All artist from the eccentric manga magazines: Garo, Com and Ax (especially Takashi Nemoto, Suehiro Maruo,Teruhiko Yumura, Yoshiharu Tsuge and Hideshi Hino) Takashi Miike Portraitphotos of Yukio Mishima by Eikoh Hosoe The singing style and music of Kazuki Tomokawa Angura The book "Narziß und Goldmund" by Hermann Hesse Italian exploitation cinema, especially the Giallo genre 1960ies, 1970ies and 1980ies music, art, movies, design, anime, architecture, toys, Dai Kaiju, Sentai... Ningen Shikkaku by Osamu Dazai Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Brueghel and other dutch painters Old photo books (for example about the Showa era, Hongkong in the 1980ies....) The graphic novel "Aruku Hito" (The walking Man) by Jiro Taniguchi Klaus Kinski, the German actor and genius The lyrics and music of the first six albums of Black Sabbath The books of Gustave Flaubert Engrish [link] Japanese woodblockprints (especially Yoshitoshi, Hokusai and Hiroshige) The book "Tokyo: A certain Style" Chindogu Morgue poems by Gottfried Benn Tadanori Yokoo Chinese Opera Masks
I try to consume as much as possible, mostly for inspiration, even if I have to take time outs, because I am actually too sensitive for too much consume.I am allways near the edge.
I mostly sit down and start to draw or paint. The inspiration flows freely once I started. Sometimes I have a plan what I wanna do. This plan can be skipped during the drawing/painting process, often several times, in the end I am mostly satisfied. When I take photos I just think of all the photos I saw, I did not read books about how to take photos. So I do with everything else, like poems, sculptures, movies, photomanipulations...

I'm always trying to give other artists support, because I think that's what we need to do, instead of being too focused on ourselves (which is inavoidable of course). artists unite, and because I knew difficult times myself. keep doing what you do long enough and you will get credibility and get known, I think you can be very succesful

In solchen Augenblicken sehe ich immer,
was hinter dem Jäger sich breitet:
nicht etwa die frühwinterliche Landschaft
des Amagi-Berges,
sondern ein verödetes, weißes Flußbett
